I just got a puppy.
Puppies poop. They also track in grass, dirt, SLUGS, you-name-it. The have saliva, and they're willing to share. I feel like, when I'm not feeding him, taking him outside, or trying in vain to get a moment of sleep, I'm cleaning up after him. Anybody have any advice for a dirt/slime/germophobe like me to not get so stressed that things are not longer clean and lovely? Or how not to whig about germy little puppy feets on everything? Any great products that clean/disinfect without being *harmful* to the puppy? I used to use Simple Green, but that stuff makes MY lungs feel like they're gonna fall out...I don't want to subject my little guy to that.
So, yeah, I dunno what I was thinking, but any advice from other Neat and Clean Freaky fellow dog owners would be awesome!
Thanks : ).

Re: What was I thinking <lol>??

I don't have dogs but I do have cats. I will simply mention *the litterbox*.
But I've always had pets and I tolerate their dirtiness. The love they bring is worth it.
Some dogs really love a bath. Get your puppy used to that now so that it's something fun that they look forward to. I wash my boyfriend's dog once a week...and that's just when I visit. If I lived with that dog, I might look into daily baths...is that too much? -

Sun, March 18, 2007 - 9:34 PMi buy baby wipes in bulk. i wipe her butt very gently after she poos and comes in the house but before she can sit on anything. i also wipe her feet off so she doesn't track dirt in or whatever she may have stepped in walking around the city. i wash her bedding & blankets once a week and wash her toys. ppl think it is crazy but they are also always amazed that my house never smells like a dirty dog.
i only bathe her once a month unless she gets super dirty because it is not good for her skin. -

Mon, March 19, 2007 - 5:03 AMThanks : ). I've been doing the baby wipes and washing stuff...still smells a little "doggy" in here to me, though maybe it's just puppy breath? He's been bathed, and even blow-dried, at least once already in his 8 weeks of life, so I'm going try to keep him accusomed to it <fingers crossed>. Any product recommendations for cleaning the floors/carpet/walls, etc.? I want things to be clean, but not irritating to little lungs and stuff. Thanks again! -

Re: What was I thinking <lol>??
Fri, April 6, 2007 - 4:52 AMI have wood floors and area rugs, the wood floors are no problem but for the rugs ( I have 5 kids so I have to do this often, maybe that's why my rugs stay nice) I use the arm and hammer carpet spinkles that reduce allergens (one of my kids has pretty bad allergies) they are supposed to help remove pet dander amoung other things, I use a wet cloth followed by nonbleach cleaning wipes on spills (also good for vomit or other such things), occasionally I will just spray the whole rug down with lysol (pink eye outbreaks) I let it sit and dry for about 30 minutes and then use the steam shark to try to rid the rug of some of the chemical from the lysol, I suppose a damp cloth might also do the trick. Febreeze makes an allergen reducer spray that seems to be helpful and it smells good/clean. I hope this helps.
