There are those cleaning products one drools over and there are those one cannot live without. What are cleaning products you must have at all times?

Mine are:
Murphy's Oil
Fanstastik
Soft Scrub
Windex
Pledge
Comet

and of course... fresh sponges & paper towels.

I want to try that new wood floor cleaner that is soppose to bring the shine back to old wood floors.
My favs are orange cleaner, bleach, sos pads and car window cleaner. It really does great job on windows and mirrors and its cheap!

Ok, one of my favs as of late is the swiffer duster! I guess it's a product. I have the extendable arm thingy and I can start on one side of the room and go around and get everything dusted, top to bottom, in a matter of minutes! Lov that!
    Also love,
    409 Lemon scent
    scrungies, lots
    Bounty paper towels
    Windex
    Dawn dishwashing liquid
    Old english oil and cream

Do any of you guys have a silver cleaner that you love. I have used a couple of different types but they all smell really bad and honestly the stuff only stays clean for a month. I like clean stuff but I don't want to be cleaning all the time!

I also love the Swiffer duster.
      Other faves include:
Oxy Clean (stain fighting hero) - see earlier post
Mrs Meyers Clean Day (for when I feel like splurging - expensive aromatherapy cleaning products)
I try to use ecologically-safe products like Ecover, Country Sun, and BioKleen.
Ecover's dish soap and cream cleanser are quite good.
I do like Windex though for glass, window, and my steel trash cans.

        ammonia
        oxy clean
        baking powder
        toothpaste for silver polishing
citrasolv for the hard to remove gunk
And the toxic 409 for getting the grease off the stove fast and cleaning all the stainless steel

i like to make my own cleaning products - mix and match safely - no ammonia with bleach.

I like ammonia (diluted of course) to clean nicotine on walls. I spay it at the top of the wall and watch the clear liquid turn yellow. Have to put towels on the floor first but it works. Have had a rental and had a few tenents that smoked!
Wow! Toothpaste for silver polishing? What kind? I'm all for something that doesn't smell like rotten eggs.

toothpaste is also good for gold...but my favorite is good ole bleach and pine sol. Am I evil?

            Windex
            Comet

and for smells, water with some fabric softener..excellent for smells on furniture and carpets.

And what is good for smells in cars, fresh coffee grounds! Wipes that musty, or cigarette smells right out of the car.

              hey karen -

just saw yer post about what toothpaste. i brush with natural stuff but polish silver with colgate I believe- not the gel kind.

                Slurpee
I had a silver necklace get all fucked up at the hot springs. It was weird because i bought this silver dip stuff - Goddard's silver dip and I dipped my necklace in there and it looked like it took all the sulfur and stuff out right away, so I just let it soak in there and then later it looked like it didn't do anything! weird. so you think colgate will work?
Also, for the ovens I have found that Bio Kleen spray and wipe cleaner - citrus is great. Works great and non toxic.
                cheers.

i am now trying to remember if it was colgate. I only use toothpaste on silver that is not super delicate and not really big and shiny - like an expensive silver fruit bowl (I don't know why i am thinking of fruit...)

when you get a toothpaste, try to find one that does not have baking soda and is not super chalky - the less abrasive the better.

i have always used toothpaste and have never had a problem and it has worked wonders. Many sellers of fine silver advise against it since a super filled baking soda paste may be too abrasive.

btw - I saw the queen of clean on tv the other night - totally hot!

    Oxi Clean!!
Bleach in all its glorious forms
Ecover laundry soap, no stupid plastic scoop to throw away!
    Borax!! Great for soooo much...
Method cleaning sprays, Kitchen and Bathroom are my favorite
My all time favorite cleaning item is ta-daa-
    BABY WIPES---
No kidding, especially great for cleaning the stove. Better than mommy spit! :)

I can see how baby wipes would be useful but I don't think I could handle the scent... unless they make them in non-powdery scent?

What I look for in cleaning products is a blend of utility and things that smell devinely clean. Some products I can't handle simply because they reek.

        good ol' recapitulation.

gets the grease and gook right out!

I am also a fan of Oxy Clean spray (as opposed to powdered Oxy Clean which I use in laundry and for getting stains out of other things).
I just found an old canvas umbrella with mold stains on it and washed it in washing machine with Oxy Clean and detergent. It helped, but there are still stains from mold. So I put it up in the sun and am spraying it with the Oxy Clean spray. I will keep you updated on the progress. It's white and it has to look pretty for our BBQ on Monday.

Totally true on the reek factor, I can't stand Simple Green because of the scent....Blecch
My fav baby wipes for cleaning are Huggies Natural Care (they are unscented). I keep a box in the kitchen for the stove and little spills and one in the dining room for the high chair and sticky little fingers :)

On of the things I like about the Method line of cleaners is their scents, some are strong, but I like them, so there you go!
And I forgot to add Baking Soda is king! Smell removal, scouring powder, water softener ( laundry) etc... I LOVE baking soda. Costco carries 5 pound bags of it and I usually get two. ;)

    SIMPLE GREEN!
    (and its friend, BLUE CONCENTRATE!)

I like something called Kaboom, it smells great and washes my tub and shower very well, you spray it on and see it turn yellow with the gunk.
I like Vim, for my stove top, Oxy clean for counter tops and hood.
I love swiffer to dust, works great. I've also purchased those micro fiber dusters, they work great, look like a regular rag but works great and washes well.
Thanks for all the great advice!

    goo gone for president!

I am also a fan of concentrated sulphuric acid for those tough jobs...

I should check out this murphy's oil, seems to be raging on this thread

Mmm new sponges. And I like to use toothbrushes for hard-to clean areas like corners of the shower and around sink fixtures! Um, old toothbrushes that is.

    I love:

Ecover anything, essentially. My favorites are the cream scrub, all-purpose lemon cleanser, and their laundry stuff.

Ms. Meyers all purpose spray, window spray, and powder cleanser. Also the laundry stuff! Gentle and the scents are amaaazing.

    Method countertop spray (candles too!)

    Windexxx

    Sadly, febreze.

Bon Ami (can you tell I like powder cleaners? baking soda works wonders too in this dept.)

And my number one ultimate fixation are pledge grab-its (the dry cloths). I have them everywhere and dust constantly.

Ouu, well for my bathroom I have specific cleaning products I like to use and none other. For the toilet I only like using Lysol Cling Toilet Bowl Cleaner (Country Scent), and then I disinfect it with this wonderful disinfectant I get from Dollar General (I know!), it's just their store brand in Fresh Linen scent. Then I like to clean the sink and shower with either Tilex Mold and Mildew Remover or Lysol Bathroom Cleaner (Island Breeze scent). And then of course for mirrors I like Windex.

I have a Pledge obsession for dusting, and before vaccuuming I absolutely have to spray the carpets with Febreze.

Laundry? I really love Arm & Hammer, since it's so cheap, but my favorite is of course Tide with a touch of Downy. My favorite fabric softener is Suavite (Fresh Dew scent), and then I like Bounce with a touch of Febreze dryer sheets.

Yes, I'm a housekeeper, and I'm obsessive about my cleaning.

For cleaning windows, especially auto glass, it's CRL Sprayaway Glass Cleaner. Spray it on and wipe it off with clean towel. No streaks and it smells great! A 19-ounce can will cost 'ya about $3.50, but it will last forever (well, almost). I used to buy it from an auto glass installer, but now I see that it's available at certain ACE Hardware stores.

This Spraway glass cleaner has (since I began using it) caused Windex overstock issues at my local store, lol. I was a LOYAL Windex user for 20 years or more and since getting ahold of this Sprayway . . . Windex can disappear as far as I'm concerned. I buy it at Sam's Club (didn't know about Ace Hardware) for $8 something for a pack of 4, so just a smidge over $2 bucks each. Does last a long time, have to say.

      Get it if you can!!!

Here's my other pet product. I've used to buy Comet in the tall-can-six-pack (literally). If I was running low or, God forbid OUT of Comet, we had a Rainman situation brewing. My mother suggested a powdered cleanser called Barkeeper's Friend (found it at Hy-Vee--not every store carries it I guess--you can Google Barkeeper's Friend, they have a website).

I'm TELLIN' you all what, I never thought I'd utter the words, "I don't need Comet for anything," but I'm saying it now!

This stuff, (and with just a 1/3 as much as Comet would be required) takes things off of ceramic and stainless steel sinks, EVEN glass top stoves, fiberglass tubs, shower floors, tile, etc. with less than 1/2 the effort. If they only sold stock in the company . . . my evangelizing might profit me. So, for now, I simply recommed it and invite you to join in the neurosis of Barkeeper's Friend Addicts Annonymous.

    :)

I have to agree with you Anya!! It was recommended by Calphalon to clean our stainless steel pots, and boy does it work wonders!! We have an old porcelain sink that had a rust spot that never came out. I found that after I had finished cleaning one of the pans, it had taken the rust spot right off without even scrubbing!! Great stuff :)
