i know i am woefully below this tribe's standards. i recognize that; i'd like to give you neat and clean freaks a bit of perspective, though, on what it's like to try so hard to be clean, and fail.
i have severe ADD; my brain refuses to stay focused on anything non-stimulating for very long. This means that i can clean for hours, but get so frequently distracted that i only get a few things picked up. i want my place to be clean, i really do; i hate the smells, the little stains, the cluttered surfaces. But no matter how much time and effort i devote to it, my place is still dirty, because i just can't concentrate.
i don't mean to whine here, but i just wanted to say that not every "dirty" person is that way for lack of trying. So, consider yourselves lucky; maybe, with a lot of effort, i can eventually join your ranks.

Re: Trying to be clean... and failing.
Thu, April 27, 2006 - 12:57 PMMaybe you just need a schedule - you could even set a timer to let you know when your time for dusting is up, ready or not! I used to get frustrated when I couldn't do all the housework at once. A friend told me it's okay to just do some of the dishes if you don't have time to do them all. -

Re: Trying to be clean... and failing.
Fri, April 28, 2006 - 3:27 PMCatherine makes a good suggestion. fret not Mira I think most of us clean freaks probably suffer from our own neuroses in some way or another (at least that's the case with me) i have some quirky OCD habits that make me neat and clean! -

Wed, May 3, 2006 - 12:20 PMHeh... i'm an artist, and i'm often told that people are really jealous of my creativity. i would trade a bit of creativity for a bit of OCD, any day... that way, at least i can find my art supplies, yeah? n_n;;

Re: Trying to be clean... and failing.
Thu, May 11, 2006 - 1:05 PMA bit of OCD? I'm a confirmed OCD person...lol....who else but someone with OCD would take the time to take apart the tap at the sink to clean under the knobs? EVERYDAY!!!
A schedule works wonders. I also ran around worrying about doing the whole house but now I have days. If you can plan it; it can be done.
Now pass me a toothbrush, there is crud on my keyboard. -

Re: Trying to be clean... and failing.
Sat, May 13, 2006 - 12:29 PMSo how do you stop yourself from taking apart the sink everyday? Or don't you?
Oooh, I wish you hadn't mentioned it because now I'm getting a feeling like it's something I need to do. I know it's dirty under there. -

Re: Trying to be clean... and failing.
Wed, May 17, 2006 - 10:25 AMI don't do it everyday....physically.......I do it mentally. Ugh, that didn't sound much better!~
I just hate the grunge look-no, not Nirvana- although I had the urge to wash his greeeeeeasy hair...
My favorite "Friends" episode is when Monica stalks the ex-girlfriend of CHandler(?) to go clean her apartment. I found that strangely funny.
PS: dirty toothbrushes won't do for CLEANING! -

Re: Trying to be clean... and failing.
Wed, May 17, 2006 - 10:46 AMI like the episode of Friends where Monica is explaining how to make the bed to her Tom Selleck boyfriend. "The flowers go toward the head of the bed because they grow toward the sun..." or sumthin' like that. When I tried to explain to my former boyfriend how/why I make my bed the way I do, I got some funny looks. "Sheet goes on bed" was about as far as he could get. -

Re: Trying to be clean... and failing.
Tue, May 30, 2006 - 6:41 AMomigod! there are more of me out there.... don't watch too much TV, but I relate to the perfectly made bed.... to me there is nothing better than climbing into a 'made' bed - especially one with clean sheets.... ah - heaven.... my toes get freaked when the sheets are crumpled! and the sheets absolutely have to be on the 'right' way... flowers to the head.... tee hee -

Re: perfectly made bed
Tue, May 30, 2006 - 4:07 PMamen! So nice to have others who understand the art and necessity of a perfectly made bed. My previous boyfriend thought I was a nut. But it turned into a joke with us and he eventually started to understand that at least it was important to me. I don't think he still fully understood though.
Nothing better than clean sheets! Maybe even beats the defrosted and cleaned freezer/fridge. ;-)
